Based in Berlin, doctorly provides practice management software to doctor’s offices across Germany. With a lean team and a growing customer base in a highly regulated industry, doctorly needed a system that could streamline finance operations without sacrificing accuracy or flexibility.

Billing is existential, especially for a startup. It's life and death. If you don't bill properly, or if you don't bill at all, you're dead. Today, I see money coming into the bank from customers and think: that’s Subscript at work.

Manual processes were slowing doctorly down
Michele Golden joined doctorly as the company’s first finance hire, stepping into a lean but ambitious setup: one person, one Salesforce instance, and a growing need for automation.

“I was logging into Salesforce, manually creating invoices, downloading PDFs, and sending them out to each customer. It was not fun.”
- Michele Golden, Head of Finance at doctorly
Each invoice had to be correct—for cashflow and for customer trust.

“If a customer gets an invoice and they notice something that's not quite right, that's going to damage their trust, not just in the finance department, but in your overall product and your company. So it was really important to make sure that we were doing billing properly.”
- Michele Golden, Head of Finance at doctorly
Revenue recognition wasn’t any easier.
.svg)
“It was pretty hairy. We had a spreadsheet that was pulling from all sorts of places in Salesforce, with more formulas than you really want to see in a rev rec sheet. It just felt like we could do better, so I went out to look for a new solution.”
- Michele Golden, Head of Finance at doctorly
Subscript fit the team and the region
Two requirements topped doctorly’s list: support for DATEV (accounting software) and strong Salesforce integration. With one co-founder having built a Salesforce consultancy, the system plays a central role in doctorly’s operations, and the best-fit billing platform would need to integrate seamlessly.
Michele looked at Chargebee, Hyperline, and even Salesforce add-ons, but most tools were either too rigid or too complex.
Subscript struck the right balance.

“It felt like Subscript was manageable. It would allow us to get a more automated billing process in place without overwhelming us with tons of other features that get in the way and confuse things.”
- Michele Golden, Head of Finance at doctorly
And the relationship felt collaborative from the start.

“It felt great to be in the trenches with another B2B SaaS startup. The team was able to work closely with us and meet us where we were—and that has continued.”
- Michele Golden, Head of Finance at doctorly
Hands-on onboarding built trust and confidence
Doctorly’s onboarding experience with Subscript became a highlight of the engagement.
.svg)
“The Subscript team did such a deep dive into our Salesforce setup that we really felt confident that everything is mapping the way that it should be. This actually helped us review our setup in Salesforce to make sure that it was as efficient as possible.”
- Michele Golden, Head of Finance at doctorly
That level of care has continued post-launch.

“I love Subscript’s customer service. I tell everyone about it. I ask questions all the time in our Slack channel, and I always get responses. Sometimes it’s alarmingly fast, and it’s always helpful.”
- Michele Golden, Head of Finance at doctorly
For Michele, that consistency comes down to Subscript’s culture.

“Every interaction I’ve ever had with Subscript has confirmed this for me. I’m a huge, huge fan.”

A billing system that frees up time and drives alignment
Today, doctorly’s billing is faster, more accurate, and far less manual.
.svg)
“So many parts of the process are automated now—and accuracy has improved tremendously just because so much of it is not manual anymore.”
- Michele Golden, Head of Finance at doctorly
Other teams can now own parts of the process, giving Michele more time for strategic work.

“Before I was the only one who really understood what was going on with billing in Salesforce. Now, since our customer service team has access to Subscript, customers who contact us about invoices can get a faster response. This has really helped the working relationship between finance and customer service.”
- Michele Golden, Head of Finance at doctorly
A platform that grows with you
As a one-person finance team, Michele needed more than automation. She needed a partner who could scale with her as the business evolved.
.svg)
“When you’re a young startup, tools are often part of the team, and it’s important to have tools that are flexible enough to grow with you. I feel like we have that with Subscript—and I really, really, really value it.”
- Michele Golden, Head of Finance at doctorly
Michele’s advice to other SaaS finance leaders:
.svg)
“If you’re looking for flexibility and a team that is willing to work with you to find solutions to your pain points, surface the problems you don’t know you have, and help you think a couple steps ahead, then Subscript is definitely worth a look.”
