Case study

Scanifly + Subscript

Scanifly’s homegrown billing system couldn’t keep pace with the product’s evolution. Subscript replaced the spreadsheets, automated rev rec, and gave Finance confidence in the numbers.
Customer Story
Scanifly logo
Scanifly is a B2B SaaS platform providing the solar industry with design software for residential and commercial rooftop installations. As the company’s product lines and pricing models became more complex, Scanifly’s lean finance team needed a billing and revenue recognition platform that could scale without engineering support.
Company size: <50 employees
Location: NY Metropolitan Area
Stage: Series A
Billing is integral to customer success. You can have a fantastic product and fantastic delivery, but if you send an invoice that is completely wrong or mysterious, customers won’t trust you anymore. For this reason, Subscript is worth every penny.

Scanifly was outgrowing its in-house system
When Mike Jannetty joined as VP of Finance, Scanifly’s billing lived in a custom-built tool.
“They had built a pretty slick billing solution, and it worked well for a one-product company, but there was a lot of rigidity in what we could offer customers and how we could arrange the subscriptions.”
- Mike Jannetty, VP of Finance at Scanifly
As the product catalog grew—annual subscriptions, monthly payments, overages, services, credits, and flexible terms—the in-house tool hit its limits.

Exceptions lived in Excel, and revenue recognition for multiple performance obligations did, too.

The operational pain was high, but the bigger issue was strategic:
“When you’re putting your sales team in a position where they have to say, ‘You have to fit into this box,’ you might be killing deals. The last thing I wanted was to be a hindrance to Scanifly’s growth.”
- Mike Jannetty, VP of Finance at Scanifly
So, Mike started looking for a new system.
Subscript was fit for purpose
The Scanifly team ran a rigorous evaluation process, looking at Ordway, Maxio, Chargebee, and Subscript.
“It really needed to thread the needle on a good fit for a good price and a good level of service for my very lean team.”
- Mike Jannetty, VP of Finance at Scanifly
Mike found that Maxio felt cobbled together. Ordway’s costs would grow with Scanifly’s revenue. And Chargebee was more fit for B2C.

Plus, none of the other platforms could prove they had subject matter expertise in both subscription and usage-based models.
“Subscript was the only software where all those mechanisms of monetization were just native in the platform. It was fit for purpose.”
- Mike Jannetty, VP of Finance at Scanifly
Two weeks to value
Mike came to onboarding with Excel files in hand.
“What I found was a high level of service. Instead of having to overexplain myself, the Subscript team just picked up where I left off. They did the reconciliations and would check on exceptions as needed.”
- Mike Jannetty, VP of Finance at Scanifly
There was no dramatic cutover or prolonged parallel workflow—just a smooth transition to a system the whole team could use immediately.
“It was a super quick time to value. Within two weeks, we were using the software.”
- Mike Jannetty, VP of Finance at Scanifly
And support didn’t stop after go-live.
“It's not a big monolith of faceless software people. It's folks who care—and who have deep domain expertise—working with us to make sure we’re using Subscript to its full value. With that extremely high level of accessibility, and just knowing us and knowing our business, Subscript really sets the bar on customer service.”
- Mike Jannetty, VP of Finance at Scanifly
Leverage for a lean team
Subscript’s intuitive design lets Mike’s non-finance staff work like seasoned accountants.
“You’ll know how to use Subscript because it guides the process. With that kind of leverage, we’ve been able to expand the value we bring to the business.”
- Mike Jannetty, VP of Finance at Scanifly
Reconciliation is quick and reliable.
“Outside of extreme exceptions, it's like a rubber stamp process because I know Subscript to be accurate. The financials have an extreme amount of rigor and integrity that is fully auditable.”
- Mike Jannetty, VP of Finance at Scanifly
And with the close under control, Finance can be more strategic:
“I'm able to grow into being a better partner for the business—and be a revenue leader in the business—and not be ground down in monthly closes and making sure that the financials are accurate because I know that they are. Because Subscript is supporting me in that process.”
- Mike Jannetty, VP of Finance at Scanifly
“It’s never too early or too late.”
With Subscript, Mike’s team is operating with efficiency.
“There’s no way I could have accomplished what I have without Subscript. I would need more manpower. With Subscript, our lean team is saving 3 to 4 days of effort each month.”
- Mike Jannetty, VP of Finance at Scanifly
His advice to other finance leaders:
“It’s never too early and it’s never too late to get a software system like Subscript implemented because it’s going to give you more operating leverage as a team to be able to do more. And it’s going to be able to give you that confidence that everything is correct.”
- Mike Jannetty, VP of Finance at Scanifly
